Four Facts...

Four Facts...
As there are a few new faces around these parts, I thought I would write four facts about Luludu! Here we go…

1. These shoes are crocheted by three women who live in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Their names are Mel Eng, Vanna and Srey Pov. You can see their photos and read more about them on my website.

2. Thousands of people we will never meet have helped make our lives more convenient, our homes prettier, and our bellies fuller. However most of the time we don’t even have to think about them as they are often hidden behind closed doors; their labour is bought cheaply only to have their products sold at sky high prices (this includes farmers, factory workers, cotton pickers etc..) This doesn't sit right with me, and not how I want to do business. My aim with Luludu is to bring our attention back to the story, the intention, and the appreciation for our makers.

3. I started this business roughly 5 years ago after wanting to create a product that would bring some good into the world. I decided early on that all materials used would be animal friendly, as I did not want to profit from any being’s suffering.

4. The supply chain for Luludu is short; the shoes are made, they are shipped to me, and they are sold primarily online. Approximately eight hours of work goes into each pair of these shoes (admittedly I haven’t made any other garments but that sounds like a long time to me!) and the ladies who make them are paid fairly for their work. If I used the standard retail pricing structure they would probably be at least twice the price that they are, but by using this method I can cut out the middle men and keep the price as low as possible.
