My number one goal when starting Luludu was to support other women. I wanted to provide work that was enjoyable, safe, and that provided a fair wage. I wanted to cause as little harm as possible, and to create a unique product that women would love. I wanted to create connection, start conversations, and to also learn and evolve myself.
The women who make our crochet shoes are paid a fair price for every pair they make. This would work out well above the minimum living wage if they were making them full time.
However, as the business is still growing and these shoes are seasonal, I cannot always provide enough work to sustain their living costs. I am doing all I can to grow the business, but until then I have been trying to find other ways in which I can make a difference.
I have asked the women what they needed most. Their answer? They would love their children’s school fees to be covered.
The cost of each child’s schooling is AUD$20 per month. There are currently 3 children attending school, so the total monthly cost is AUD$60.
Starting from February 2019, every month I will be donating an extra $60 on top of what the women already earn to lessen the burden of them having to find this money.
If you would like to help these beautiful children and their families, 100% of the profit from each sale made of these handdrawn prints (available in A5 or digital format) will be donated directly to the families in Bali.
Thank you, Alana x
